Outstanding Grad Q&A: Zoe Lipscomb, Ecosystem Science and Sustainability

Zoe Lipscomb is receiving a B.S. degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability from the Warner College of Natural Resources. She worked in Troy Ocheltree’s plant ecophysiology laboratory while at Colorado State University and plans to combine her love for working with people with her passion for rural communities. 

Q: Why did you choose CSU? 

I actually chose CSU because of the Equine sciences program. I wanted to be a full-time horse trainer, but discovered a passion for rangeland conservation, and switched to Warner.  

Q: What’s your favorite thing about CSU?

I love the camaraderie within my natural resources classes.

Q: What are your career goals?

I am actually changing career plans to a social work field. My goal is to merge my passion for social work with my passion for being an advocate for rural communities within natural resource issues.  

Q: What has been your favorite instructor/class/mentor?

My favorite mentors at CSU were the people I worked with in Troy Ocheltree’s lab.  

Q: What will you miss most about CSU? 

I will miss studying with my friends at the long table in Warner.  

Q: Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen? 

Follow your passions even if they change along your CSU journey.  

Q: What was a challenge you overcame to get to this point?

Letting go of the career plan and expectations that I had when I started out as a freshman.  

 Q: What was the most rewarding part of your CSU experience?

I worked with the Campus Connections mentoring program for at-risk youth for the last five semesters. This course helped me become a better more empathetic person and made me realize that I want a career working with at-risk youth.
