The secret lives of roots: Tropical forest root systems are central to understanding the carbon stock change
International research led by CSU suggests that studying root function in tropical forests could help vegetation models improve predictions of climate change.
Waterhole superspreaders: Cattle can spread disease to wildlife at water sources
As climate change drives higher temperatures and water scarcity, disease transmission between livestock and wildlife at shared resources is on the rise. Colorado State University research suggests that resource management and parasite treatment can help mitigate parasite transmission between cattle and wild herbivores.
New 66-million-year history of carbon dioxide offers little comfort for today
A massive new review of ancient atmospheric carbon-dioxide levels and corresponding temperatures lays out a daunting picture of where the Earth’s climate may be headed. The study covers geologic records spanning the past 66 million years, putting present-day concentrations into context with deep time.
CSU offers new graduate certificate on climate adaptation and risk management
A new online graduate-level certificate at Colorado State University will teach students and professionals concrete skills in climate change adaptation and risk management to bring to their current and future careers in natural resources fields. The Climate Adaptation and Risk Management certificate is nicknamed “CARMA.”
Further Together Lecture Series brings International Biodiversity Network to CSU to tackle global conservation challenges
As part of Warner College Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series — Further Together — that highlights conservation and sustainability success stories, on Sept. 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Iris and Michael Smith Alumni Center, IBN will discuss transdisciplinary issues including biodiversity loss, climate change, and wildlife health trends that span the next decade. Light bites will be served, and a cash bar will be available. Registration is required to attend this FREE event.
CSU researcher part of Indigenous climate resilience science hub
Dominique David-Chavez, assistant professor of Indigenous Natural Resource Stewardship in the Forest and Rangeland Stewardship Department and director of the Indigenous Land and Data Stewards laboratory at Colorado State University, will work with coastal communities in Borikén (Puerto Rico) to support community-based climate research as part of a five-year $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
Researchers collaborate on prescribed fire science
Colorado State University researcher Chad Hoffman is among many researchers who provide scientists and land managers scientific support for the safe and effective use of prescribed fire, a common management tool used to reduce the negative impacts of wildfire and meet ecological objectives.
Back to the future of climate: new research provides insight into climate change
These data will allow scientists to better assess how our climate might look in the future.
New research shows importance of climate on spruce beetle flight
Slightly warmer climate could allow spruce beetles to put even more pressure on Engelmann spruce trees.
The struggle to save Colorado’s forests in a changing world
Research and outreach at CSU is helping inform the future of Colorado's forest in an ever-shifting landscape of change.
